1,000 Hour Apprentice Lineman
Chariton Valley Electric Cooperative, Inc.
(CVEC), located in Albia, Iowa, is seeking qualified applicants for a 1000-hour Apprentice Lineman.
This position will have the potential to lead into a 4-year Apprentice Program with CVEC under the direction of the Iowa Association of Electric Cooperatives.
CVEC is a member-owned electric distribution cooperative serving over 6,200 meters and maintaining 1,400 miles of electric power lines within a service territory of 7 counties.
Required duties of this position include, but are not limited to; framing and setting poles, installing guys, grounds, conduit, and underground cable.
Gain and understand a thorough knowledge of the description units' specifications and drawings and the line construction of distribution voltages presently in use on the system.
Maintains and properly uses all vehicles, equipment, hand and battery-operated tools that are assigned.
Will assist Journeyman in patrolling line and checking for defective materials, equipment and/or unsafe conditions.
Must be able to understand and utilize safety equipment; learn and comply with all safety policies, rules, and regulations and perform all other job-related duties as may be assigned by management.
Applicants must possess a high school education (or equivalent); have certification from an accredited Climbing School or Power Line Program; have the ability to read, write, and utilize computers, as well as have the aptitude for mechanically-oriented work and ability to work in extreme weather conditions for extended periods of time.
Applicants must be able to work over-time and extended workdays for emergencies and storm outage restoration.
Applicants must be able to lift up to 100 pounds unassisted.
Applicants must possess, or be able to obtain prior to employment, a Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL), and be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical and background check.
